Recently, award-winning authors engaged in conversation; an actor/author made a school visit; a Newbery Medalist got a paperback release; and a YA author launched their “haunting” debut.


A Newbery Gathering​

On February 16, BookPeople in Austin, Tex., welcomed two-time Newbery Medalist Lois Lowry (r.) for a book tour stop celebrating her middle grade novel, The Windeby Puzzle (Clarion). Three-time Newbery Honor winner Christina Soontornvat (l.) joined Lowry for a conversation about the book, followed by a q&a and book signing. See our q&a with Lowry about The Windeby Puzzle here.


From Nubia to the Bronx

Actor and debut YA author Omar Epps (front r.) and co-author Clarence A. Haynes (back r.) visited Bronx, N.Y. high school Frederick Douglass Academy III on February 27 to discuss their book Nubia: The Awakening (Delacorte). The event was in partnership with literacy organization Behind the Book. The pair spoke with students from grades 9-12 about the novel, held a q&a, and gave students copies of the book, which they signed afterwards.


A Roaring Release

In celebration of the paperback release of her Newbery-winning When You Trap a Tiger (Yearling), author Tae Keller made an appearance at Books & Books in Coral Gables, Fla., on February 9 to sign copies of her books, before heading off to school visits.


A 'Haunting' Debut

On February 28, Trang Thanh Tran (r.) celebrated the debut of their YA novel She Is a Haunting (Bloomsbury) with a launch event at Books Are Magic’s new Montague Street location in Brooklyn, N.Y. Tran was joined by author Emily X.R. Pan (l.) for a conversation about the writing process, identity, and haunted houses, followed by a q&a, and a book signing. See our interview with Tran here.
