This month authors took their books under the Antarctic Sea; held events highlighting graphic novels; promoted their new books with toy critters; celebrated their debuts with a book tour; and stopped by a book festival.


Under the Sea

Lily Simonson celebrated the launch of her latest illustrated book, Antarctica! (Chooseco), on October 18 with a virtual event. Attendees were able to watch a Zoom conversation between Simonson and Dr. Andrew Thurber covering climate change, animals living in extreme conditions, and how Thurber’s work influenced Simonson. Pictured here, Thurber took to the Antarctic Sea for a scuba adventure with Simonson's book in tow.


Going Graphic

On October 8, Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville, Ill., hosted its inaugural Anderson’s Goes Graphic event. Artists and illustrators took part in a series of panels where they shared their creative process, gave live drawing demonstrations, and signed books for guests. Buzzing About

On October 10, author and journalist Brenna Maloney launched her latest middle grade nonfiction book, Buzzkill (Holt) with an event hosted by Washington, D.C., bookstore Politics & Prose. Maloney read from her new book and held a book signing, where she offered plastic bugs to attendees.


Book Tour ‘Bonding’

Amanda Glaze (l.) celebrated the launch of her debut YA novel The Second Death of Edie and Violet Bond (Union Square & Co.) with a book tour, appearing at Books Inc. in Alameda, Calif., on October 6. Glaze sat down with fellow author Nina LaCour (r.) to talk about the book’s feminist themes and more.


How to Kick off a Book Tour

Launching their book tour for their debut picture book How to Eat a Book! (Union Square Kids), Mrs. and Mr. MacLeod appeared at Barnes & Noble at The Grove in Los Angeles on October 6. The pair read from their book and held a book signing.


‘Shining’ at a Book Festival

Today Show co-host and meteorologist Dylan Dreyer (l.) made an appearance at the Morristown Book Festival in Morristown, N.J., on October 8. Dreyer read from Misty the Cloud: Friends Through Rain or Shine (Random House), her latest addition to the Misty the Cloud series, and signed books for guests.
