This month, meet-and-greets go mobile; authors hold book launches; a book festival connects authors and readers; and author-illustrator pairs unite for new releases.
Tales from the Trailers
Children’s authors Laura Resau (c.), and Natasha Wing (r.) opened their trailers and part-time studios for an outdoor book event, Tales from the Trailers, held on May 22 in Fort Collins, Colo. Manufactured during the 1950s and ’60s, the three vintage trailers, Peachy, Winnie, and Lil Blue, owned by Resau and Wing, were open to the public to explore, and afterwards they held a meet-and-greet with author Tara Dairman (l.).
A Family Affair
On May 17, husband-and-wife authors Maya and Matt Meyers celebrated the release of both of their new books at a shared event at Park Road Books in Charlotte, N.C. In the latest installment to the Little Kids First Big Book series (National Geographic Kids), Maya released Little Kids First Big Book of Baby Animals. Matt launched his newest picture book, Children of the Forest, published by Holiday House/Neal Porter Books. The event included a storytime, followed by a creating drawing project for children attending.
Gather Around
The 2022 annual Gaithersburg Book Festival took place in Gaithersburg, Md., on May 19. The free festival featured children’s programming that included storytimes and talks from authors such as Dhonielle Clayton, Nina LaCour, Phil Stamper, and more. Pictured here, Jonathan Auxier (l.) and Mark Huffman took part in one of four panels that kicked off the event.
Don’t Miss Out
Author-illustrator duo Kashelle Gourley (l.) and Skylar Hogan launched their newest book I’m Not Missing (Little Bee Books) at The Bookworm in Omaha on May 21. The picture book centers a dog who grows tired of being a pet, and leaves to gain some privacy, but after seeing his owner playing with another dog, realizes that the pet life might not have been so bad. The pair read to more than 100 guests, hosted a drawing exercise, and signed copies for attendees.
