This month, authors gather for an exhibition opening; a Broadway star adds to her book series; and two books launch with a number of events.
A Memorable Museum Meeting
Earlier this month, Susan H. Kamei, author of the nonfiction book When Can We Go Back to America?: Voices of Japanese American Incarceration During WWII (Simon & Schuster), and actor, activist, and author George Takei met at the opening of an exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles. Guests of the reception included the museum board of trustees, of which George is the chairman emeritus.
Broadway’s Boulevard of Dreams
Broadway star Mandy Gonzalez celebrated the release of Boulevard of Dreams (Aladdin), the second installment in her middle grade series, Fearless, with an event hosted by the Strand Book Store in New York City. Gonzalez (c.) was joined by co-author Brittany J. Thurman (l.). The two appeared in conversation with Tony Award-winning actor James Monroe Iglehart (r.).
Blasting Off
Author Emily X.R. Pan celebrated the publication of her new YA novel, An Arrow to the Moon (Little, Brown), with a number of events the week of April 11. The series kicked off with an in-person launch event hosted by Books of Wonder, featuring a conversation with authors Pan and Melissa Albert, followed by virtual events with indie bookstores Politics & Prose (in conversation with Sabaa Tahir) and Tattered Cover (in conversation with Anna-Marie McLemore) on April 12 and 14.
Time to Grow Up
On April 19, author Karina Evans celebrated the release of her debut middle grade novel, Grow Up, Tahlia Wilkins! (Little, Brown), with an in-person event at One Upon a Time Bookstore in Montrose, Calif. Evans appeared in conversation with Aisling Fowler.
