Alison Morris has been named senior editor of acquisitions and merchandising at Scholastic Book Clubs, in charge of choosing books for grades pre-K to 8. She will relocate to New York City and join the company on September 1, reporting to David Allender. Morris has been children’s book buyer at Wellesley Booksmith in Wellesley, Mass., for the past nine years, and before that was co-children’s book buyer at the Dartmouth Bookstore. She also founded PW’s ShelfTalker blog for children’s booksellers, in 2007.
Catherine Onder has joined Disney-Hyperion as senior editor; she had been an editor at HarperCollins Children’s Books for seven years. Authors and illustrators she has worked with include Eric Carle, Robert Sabuda, Jane Yolen, and Geraldine McCaughrean; she also conceived of and edited the first literary monster mash-ups aimed at teens: Little Vampire Women, which pubbed in May, and Romeo & Juliet & Vampires, due in September.
Deane Norton will join Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing as associate director in the subsidiary rights department; she starts on July 6 and will report to Stephanie Voros. She was previously subsidiary rights manager at Macmillan Children's Books.
