Disney Publishing President Hampton Steps Down
Disney Publishing Worldwide president Russell Hampton will step down on May 4th after six years. In an e-mail to the company, Hampton did not state what his upcoming plans were.

Colbert Pushes His 'Pole,' Talks Princesses with Julie Andrews
Humorist and TV personality Stephen Colbert is beefing up his presence in the children's book world. During the opening segment of Tuesday night's episode of The Colbert Report, Colbert announced that his new children's book, I Am a Pole (And So Can You!), will be released May 8.

Children's Books Shine at the 17th Annual L.A. Times Festival of Books
More than 100,000 people, many of them families with kids, turned out for the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books on the village-like campus of USC on April 21 and 22. The atmosphere in the children's area, arguably the most popular place to be at the festival, was colorful, energetic, and mobbed on both days.

Capstone Launches New Trade Line
Capstone Publishing Group, a company best known as a publisher of books for the school and library markets since 1991 that's been moving into the trade in recent years, expanded its reach by launching a trade line called Capstone Young Readers.

Three Printz Honorees Hit the Road Together
On April 23, a trio of authors who were recognized with 2012 Michael L. Printz Awards embarks on a group tour to California and Virginia. Joining forces are Printz winner John Corey Whaley and Printz Honor winners Daniel Handler and Maggie Stiefvater. The tour is unusual for two reasons: it involves honorees of a single award and it was coordinated by publicists at three different houses.

U.K.'s Marion Lloyd to Retire
Marion Lloyd has announced that she will be retiring from her job as editorial director of Marion Lloyd Books in November. Lloyd launched her eponymous list, an imprint of Scholastic, seven years ago and has built up a reputation for publishing outstanding new authors such as Ally Kennen and Moira Young, alongside new books by established authors including Philip Reeve.

Puffer Retires; Laties Replaces
Beth Puffer had originally planned to retire as manager of Bank Street Bookstore, part of Bank Street College in New York City, at the end of 2011, but agreed to stay on until April 27 to train her replacement. Andy Laties is already gearing up to assume Puffer's responsibilities.

Lerner Digital, Lerner Publishing Group’s digital publishing division, announced today the launch of the Kar-Ben e-Bookstore, which is selling e-books for children with Jewish themes.

Bay Area Author Kickstarts New Children's Publishing Venture
Berkeley, Calif.-based author Marissa Moss is launching Creston Books, a new children’s book publisher, with plans for a debut list in fall 2013. Private investors will provide the major financial backing, and to supplement, a Kickstarter campaign aims to raise at least $50,000 by April 19.
