My Blade, Your Back

Moronova concludes her Dark Forces duology (after Your Knife, My Heart) with another heart-pounding, adrenaline-fueled foray into the elite and top secret Dark Forces military operation. Heroine Emery, the newest member of the squad, wakes up following a head wound with almost no memories of her life—including her relationship with Mori, who was her partner in the dangerous Undertrials. She still feels drawn to Mori without knowing why, but he takes every opportunity to push her away as their training continues. Meanwhile, Emery begins the medical regimen that will turn her into a supersoldier like Mori, albeit at the expense of her sanity. As her memories trickle back to her, the medicine takes hold, making her even less sure of whom to trust. Worse, Dark Forces leadership begins withholding information, which threatens to turn the squad against each other; Emery’s father, the head of a notorious crime dynasty, reenters her life; and a suicide mission to retrieve a mystery flash drive ends in heartbreak. It’s a perfect storm of murder and mayhem, but Moronova still leaves plenty of room for her trademark over-the-top spice; the heat between Mori and Emery is undeniable even when Emery has amnesia.
